Here are a few photos with the results of the Nancy Eha workshop held on Sunday, March 20, 2016.  We laughed a lot and learned a lot - thank you so much, Nancy, for sharing your knowledge with us!

The Albuquerque Fiber Arts Council/Educational Committee is planning a multi-guild exhibit on Friday/Saturday, April 1-2, 2016 at the Albuquerque Garden Center, 10120 Lomas Blvd.  The theme of this exhibit will be Colors of the Southwest.  As with the exhibit at the Old Church in Corrales, all items will be for display only, no sales.  As we get closer to the date, there will be a call for volunteers who wish to demonstrate their form of beading for visitors to the exhibit.  There is no entry fee to exhibit your work, and there is no fee for parking or entry.

The entry form and a picture of your work are due no later than March 1, 2016.  There is no restriction on when your work was created.  Here is a link to the Fiber Arts website.   http://fiberartsfiesta.org/events.html   Please scroll down to the bottom of the page and see ‘Call for Entries.’  When you click the link for an application, a Word document will open.  You may complete this, save it, and email the file along with a .jpeg photo of your work to:  carol@abqfiberartscouncil.org

The Society's annual holiday party, held November 22, 2015 at the North Domingo Baca Multigenerational Center, was a blinding white success.

White was the theme--from plates and table cloths to jewelry and clothes and the ever present smiles. The food, contributed by members and the Bead Society, was delicious and plentiful.  A host of volunteers set up the room with Patti Farley's lovely decorations and place settings. Many beautiful white, gold, and sliver items were distributed as door prizes or raffle awards, including the table decorations and gorgeous photo frames made by Jill Bartel.  The Board of Directors showcased examples of their jewelry and other art work as an opportunity for the members to see learn about the board member.

Thanks to all who contributed to a lovely evening, including Mary Ellen Merrigan, who documented the evening with the photos below.

The January 23, 2015 meeting was busy and fun!   Antoinette Sedillo-Lopez, Executive Director of Enlace Communitario, was on hand to provide an overview of the organization and explain how their programs developed.  President Jill Bartel presented Ms. Sedillo-Lopez with a check on behalf of the Bead Society.

Patti Farley, Program Director, took advantage of the first meeting of 2015 to go around the room to have the many new members and guests introduce themselves to encourage people to get to know each other and start conversations.  To help in this effort, the group activity was to use miscellaneous items to start nametags.  The goal was to begin them at the meeting, take them home to finish, then bring them back for judging at the February meeting..... prizes will be awarded!  Sample nametags:

The Show 'n Tell table had a lot of items, so people were doing a lot of beading over the holiday break!  Here are some of the items on display:

Monday, November 24, was the last meeting of 2014 and we celebrated it by throwing a Mad Beader Tea Party to mark the end of our 30th Anniversary.  Patti Farley, Chair of the 30th Anniversary Committee, organized a splendid tea party complete with cucumber sandwiches, scones and clotted cream among other tea party dainties.  The tea pot raffle raised $142.00 for Enlace Communitarios, a social justice organization led by Latina immigrants in central New Mexico who work to eliminate domestic violence in the Latino immigrant community and promote healthy families.  If you'd like to see more photos, here is a link to our Facebook page:
