Nan Card - Instructor Bio
I started taking formal beading classes around 2010 before I moved to New Mexico. I learned some bead embroidery and bead weaving doing small projects such as earrings and bracelets. My sister and I retired from our jobs in the Washington, DC area and moved to NM in 2012. I joined three organizations that beaded, including BSNM, and took more classes and learned a lot more about beading. It has become my favorite craft and now I enjoy passing on my knowledge in beading to other people.
Class Description: The simple spiral beading stitch is an easy and versatile pattern. It consists of a core and attached “arm” beads that keep stepping up until you reach the length you want.
For ease, we will use Size 8 seed beads for the core and Size 11 seed beads in two colors for the arms. All color choices are up to you and your own color favorites.
This class is great for people who have never done this spiral stitch or people who may favor other methods of beading but who would like to learn a piece of basic bead weaving (beading not on a support). In addition to providing the instructions, I will also show you examples of different ways to use the spiral stitch. We will have fun, laugh, and learn something new.
Students should bring:
- Size 8 seed beads
- Size 11 seed beads in two contrasting colors
- Size 10 beading needle
- Bead mat
- Scissors
- Anything else you would like to have to be comfortable when you bead, such as a light, magnification, etc.
